Bangkok floods!!

Tag: LibertyGrantus Maximus @ 1:50 am

Bangkok floodedAfter less than an hours rain on Saturday night Bangkok was flooded.. literally! The street were full of water up half way up your shins! We stepped straight out of a shopping centre to find this sight… So we ended up catching the BTS (inner city mono rail) back to near where we were staying but it was still a 3min walk to the hotel.

By this stage it had stopped raining but the streets were still under water. The foot paths weren’t submerged though, but crossing our first side street was a troubling mission! The water flowing through the streets was obviously part sewerage.. I don’t no what part but even the littlest is too much!! Hehe.

I took my shoes off cause I only brought the one pair, Philpa left her heels on and jane left her converse on as well… It was pretty gross to think about but was funny as hell watching the girls manage!

Needless to say we didn’t end up going clubbing that night… Why bother getting ready when you might have to tred through sewerage! Hehe.. I’m sure we could’ve caught a cab but it was a nice quiet night.

I’ll upload some photos soon! We’ve flown to Patong (Phuket), and fly out again to Koh Samui on Friday night, and the following Friday we fly back to bangkok for one last weekend before flying home Sunday night (20th)…

Waking up in bangkok!?!

Tag: LibertyGrantus Maximus @ 12:00 am

Bangkok morningOkay so this blog entry is hardly current but at least these will be chronological…

Waking up early (by local time, 3hrs behind) and finding yourself in a strange hotel room.. The living area of it at that, I scored the extra bed setup outside (My feet hang off the end.. Haha). The view from our hotel isn’t overly impressive in the day light although most of this concrete jungle is far from beautiful… But an amazing sight just because of this.

So whats the first thing you do in bangkok? Shopping of course! We headed straight to MBK which is about 8 levels of small shops, some as small as 3m square! The centre is much longer then anything I’ve seen probably abouthalf the length of Queen St Mall.

The first thing I found that apealled was a fake Deisel I paid about $10 for… soo anyway later that day the band broke, it fell and the face cracked.. Haha! Note to self, choose watches more wisely .

Being snobs and all we were rather disappointed with what MBK to offer in the way of fashion. That afternoon we headed to Emporium which is a designer shopping centre (centres are generally open till 10pm) with the big labels you’re lucky to find in Brisbane let alone stores dedicated to each of them. Being genuines prices were comparable to Aust, but much better range.

More to come for Saturday… maybe some of todays and Sundays stories too! :D

The beginnings of a Nephologist…

A nephologist, what tha..? Loosely translated for the common folk, myself included, nephlogy is the study of clouds… We had the most amazing flight and I ‘baggsed’ a window seat. The number of photos I took purely of clouds was bordering on psychotic.. HeheAfter the flight it sometime to reshape myself out of a fetal position though (elbows tucked in etc).. And eating the inflights meals became an art, swapping the placement of bowls on the tray as to best position the next morsel for consumption.

Our hotel was as expected reasonable swish, slightly in poor repair than the photos suggested but still a great place. Perfect postioning with a couple of nightclubs down the road (although we haven’t checked these out yet). Q Bar and Bed Supper Club both have websites…

Our first move for the hotel was a short stroll to a 7 11 which is about 20m down the road. It was about at this point that I realised that I’ve saved perhaps a little too much for this trip!

Barcadi Breezers – 45baht ($1.50 each)
Malbro smokes – 55baht ($2.00 a pack)
Bringing new meaning to a cheap night in, priceless!

Ohh and yes like most sensible countries on the planet alchol is sold in general stores :D

Soo many more stories to tell so little time, stay tuned for the next installment!! Gotta run about to head to some club Philipa know the bartender at (a worked at sunbar in brisbane, now lives here), he’s then getting us in to some fashion parade afterparty…
